What is it?

Composition

Protopic contains the active ingredient tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor. Tacrolimus reduces skin inflammation without causing atrophy. In addition to tacrolimus, the ointment contains several excipients that ensure comfortable application and stability.

• White petrolatum helps soften and moisturize the skin, preventing excessive dryness.
• Liquid paraffin forms a protective layer on the skins surface, retaining moisture and improving the penetration of the active ingredient.
• Polyethylene glycol monostearate promotes uniform distribution of the ointment.

These components interact with each other, allowing the product to be effective and gentle on the skin.

How to use?

Proper use of Protopic ointment requires following certain steps to ensure its maximum effectiveness and safety. First, its important to prepare the skin before applying the medication.

1. Before applying, wash and dry your hands thoroughly. This helps prevent contamination and infection.
2. Apply a thin layer of ointment to the affected areas of skin, being careful not to extend beyond areas that do not require treatment.
3. After application, gently rub the ointment in, avoiding excessive pressure to avoid damaging the sensitive skin.

Also, avoid bathing immediately after applying the ointment, as water can wash away the ointment, reducing its effectiveness.

How does it work?

Protopic works by inhibiting immune cell activity, which helps slow or even stop the inflammatory process that causes eczema. Its main active ingredient, tacrolimus, targets immune cells, reducing the production of inflammatory mediators.
